The type of Footing that is economical and durable depends upon the conditions where it is to be built. Like if a footing is to be constructed in an are where soil is too loose, so piles foundation may be more durable but not that economical. Similarly, if in the same conditions even piles cannot be installed due to hard strata being far below the reach than Matt footing will be durable but not economical.
So for a footing to be durable and economical, you have to find out the conditions of site, the options and alternatives available and then you have to choose the most durable and economical from the available options.
