A slump test is used to know the workability of concrete. This is a field test. by performing this test we can determine the workability, in other words flowing cahractics of concrete. The results obtained from this test are genralised and for greater accuracy in lab Flow index test is performed. In todays arena every Civil engineer has to go for many different ways to convey concrete from the place of manufacturing and the place of being used. Hence workability plays an important role in decision making for any perticular case. for example if an engineer requires to pump the comcrete from ground to more than 50 meter height and the batching plant is located say 5 Km distance. In such a situation the engineer has to ask Batching operator for high slump Concrete to counter the conveing time. because as the time passes the slump of concrete decreses. Also the engineer would require slump more than 90 to pump the concrete upwards using adequate machinary. Similerily if an engineer required the concrete to be placed on ground by hand then he will have to ask the operator for adequate mix.
